I bought something on Ebay and in the past always just sent American dollars to pay (taking into account the difference in the pound/dollar). Well, this guy I just won something from says he wants me to send cash in sterling. What the heck is sterling? Is he telling me to send British money to him? Oh, please help an uninformed American. Thanks, Jacinta

You're paying using a credit card, aren't you? It will convert it to pounds when he receives it, I think.

I´ve bought several times from eBay and it has been always done with credit card. It´s simple and easy.Except one time I noticed after I made my bidding that the seller doesn´t accept credit cards. So I had to go to bank and ask them to write a check in British sterling pounds. They in the bank wasn´t pleased at all, they were sure it will be goodbye for the money and never heard about the seller anymore. I wasn´t pleased because the bank costs, money changing and everything was more than the item cost itself. Anyway,I posted the check in signed letter and after a week or so I got the item.So it was happy ending. I learned from this always make sure you can pay with credit card before you make your bid. It saves you a lot of work and trouble.

Well, I usually just send cash cause I don't have a credit or bank card. I don't want one. I haven't had a problem so far. Hope this works out. I sent the payment off today.
